Autonomous Delivery Robot
Markham Centre represents the City’s long-term vision for a vibrant downtown, combining mixed-use retail, residential, and office spaces, alongside the new York University campus set to open in 2024. Prioritizing sustainable, efficient, and equitable transportation for goods and travelers to and from this hub is crucial. The City of Markham's first and last mile challenge for the OVIN Demonstration Zone invites innovative solutions to enhance mobility for goods and people.
By demonstrating cargo delivery innovations—featuring 'BUBS' an autonomous cargo delivery robot—we aim to enhance movement of goods.
Purpose:
Evaluate the potential of autonomous cargo robots to provide efficient, last-mile food delivery solutions, enhancing accessibility for local restaurants and improving delivery convenience for residents and visitors in the downtown area.
Expected Outcomes:
Gather feedback from customers on the ease and quality of robot-delivered food services, aiming to enhance the dining experience through quick and convenient delivery options.
- Assess whether autonomous cargo robots can reduce delivery times and increase reliability, particularly in high-density downtown areas.
- Safety study to evaluate how an autonomous robot operates in a live environment.
